Anna Little (NJ-6)
Anna is a wife, a mother of three children, and currently serves as Mayor of the Borough of Highlands, New Jersey. As Mayor, Anna has proven her ability to manage a fiscally responsible municipality by reducing the budget, and implementing an economic growth vision for her hometown. From 2006-2008, Anna served as a Monmouth County Freeholder, bringing her vision of responsible government to the county by establishing the Continuous Budget Review Committee, and by hosting an Economic Development Summit. She is committed to improving her community as a trustee for the Frielinghaus Memorial Scholarship Fund, and as a member of the Historical Society of the Highlands. Anna also enjoys singing with the Choir at her local church.
It is the responsibilty of a representative in Congress to serve the people of the Congressional District according to the core values derived from the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill Of Rights and to hold true that the United States is a republic conceived by its architects as a nation whose people were granted “unalienable rights” by our Creator. Among these are the rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Fiscal Responsibility: Fiscal Responsibility by government honors and respects the freedom of the individual to spend the money that is the fruit of their own labor. A constitutionally limited government, designed to protect the blessings of liberty, must be fiscally responsible or it must subject citizens to high levels of taxation that unjustly restrict the liberty our Constitution was designed to protect. Such runaway deficit spending as we now see in Washington D.C. compels us to take action as the increasing national debt is a grave threat to our national sovereignty, national security and the personal and economic liberty of our future generations.
Constitutionally Limited Government: The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land. Added as an afterthought but very much a key part of the American Constitution is the Bill of Rights. After enumerating specific rights retained by the people in the first eight amendments, the Ninth Amendment and the Tenth Amendment spelled out the principles of limited government. Together, these two last Amendments clarify the differences between the rights of the people versus the delegated powers of the federal government. In essence both amendments state that the people retain certain rights, and that those powers not granted to the federal government and not prohibited to the states, are reserved to the states or the people.
With deep honor and respect for the Constitution, I pledge to abide by the original intent of the founders regarding the establishment and operation of our government. I will uphold the principle that the “government is of the people, by the people and for the people”.
Free Markets: I support a return to the free market principles on which this nation was founded and oppose government intervention into the operations of private business. The necessary components for the functioning of an idealized free market include the complete absence of artificial price pressures from taxes, subsidies, tariffs, or government regulation. While I recognize that collection of taxes is necessary to cover the costs of governmental operations, taxation should not be structured such that it interferes with healthy business operation, or inhibits growth of an economy. Free market economics confines government intervention in economic matters to regulating against force and fraud among market participants.
