In his speech, Reagan expressed his concern that the people of 2076 may never get to read the letter because it spoke of individual freedom.
America, 2076 —the United States has been fundamentally changed, and the government controls every aspect of daily life—medical decisions, consumption, speech, transportation, even the right to be alive—all in the name of social justice. Michael Adams, a journalism student, writes an article about America’s Tricentennial and wonders if his generation understands what it means to be an American. He uncovers a dangerous plot to destroy the Reagan letter—its message no longer welcome in a country where liberty has died and tyranny rules.Michael turns to the man who introduced him to Reagan’s ideas—Calvin Marshall, a history professor who is hiding, and only his granddaughter, Michael’s ex-girlfriend, Jackie Perez, knows of his whereabouts. Michael is forced to run when he is pursued by a federal agent determined to silence him at any cost. To keep the letter from being destroyed, he must face the agent, community organizers, rats, strippers, high-speed trains, bandits, Obamobiles, a terrible family dinner, and a bad movie.As Michael continues to run for his life, Reagan’s warning becomes all too real. “They probably won’t get to read the letter at all, because it speaks of individual freedom . . .”Will Reagan’s last words ever be heard? Dr. Michael Santos is a physician and a writer, an objectivist and a Christian. He lives in Florida with his wife and three children. 2076-REAGAN’S LAST WORD is his first novel.
